Since making his debut for the Steeldogs last season, Vlads has turned heads with his style of play. Once he settled into the team and got up to speed with the pace of the National Division, Vlads turned out to be an absolute gem to have with the Dogs. His was a sought after signature, so the Steeldogs made him an early target for 23/24. Jason Hewitt likes what he sees with Vulkanovs and has made him an Assistant Captain this season.
The soft spoken Latvian is looking forward to a new role;
‘It’s a great honour for me to be an Assistant Captain for this team after only a year here. I’d like to say big thanks to the management and the coach for believing that I can thrive in this role. This is a big responsibility for me and with the direction the club is going it is crucial for me to help young guys in their development.’
‘I’ve played hockey for 20 years now and I feel I can help the team, being one of the leaders on and off the ice. Everyone knows that I don’t talk much but I will try to be an example with my work ethic and love for the game. I want to win, as we all do. This year it is important to stick together and put the team’s interest first. This way we will be dangerous to other teams when we act as a unit. As we have a tight group, I feel I am ready for this role. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this season.’
