It’s Just Team Sheffield for Tate Shudra
The biggest and most important name in Steelers history took another step forward today with the news that Tate Shudra was leaving the Blackburn Hawkes to concentrate solely on his ice hockey career in Sheffield.
Shudra, brother of Cole and son of legend Ron Shudra had been playing between Blackburn and the Steeldogs on a two-way agreement
Steelers and SteelDogs owner Tony Smith confirmed today that from now on Tate would be on a one way agreement with the Dogs
“We are delighted to welcome Tate full time to the Dogs and look forward to watching his progress in the years that come
“Ron, Cole and Tate were, are and will be the backbone of this ice hockey club” said Smith “When we took over the Dogs and brought them under the Steelers umbrella we said our aim was to encourage the best local talent and in many ways that meant bringing back talent that had left to play elsewhere
“I think some people thought, when we took over the Dogs that we were just speaking words but I think our actions in the last few weeks show that we mean business and are serious about developing young British players and giving them a pathway to the Steelers and the professional game
“We are a long way off where we want to be, but we are all delighted with the start we have made and the early progress”
Steeldogs are in action this SATURDAY at ICE Sheffield when they take on Telford Tigers (face Off 7.30pm
