The Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs were keen to follow up last week’s dramatic win with another two points. The team welcomed Sam Cooper to the defence and the debutant gave a great account of himself from the get go.
During the first period Sheffield were clearly in the driving seat for the opening exchanges but it was the Tigers who got on the board first. Price buried a rebound to give the visitors a 0-1 lead on 10:02. From here to the end of the period the Steeldogs created their chances but Day was equal to the attempts on goal. 0-1
The second period saw the Sheffield side work hard and their effort was rewarded with a Jason Hewitt goal which was a piece of magic into the top corner. Then a Sam Cooper shot from the point put the Steeldogs ahead. The Tigers drew level on 34:33 with a power play bullet of a shot from Luka. End of the period 2-2
With all to play for in the third period, both teams gave their all. The Steeldogs just had the edge over the Tigers with chances and creativity. The Dogs power play clicked to create the third goal, Bissonnette setting Phillips up to bury the winner at 51:59. The Sheffield side commanded all zones and put the game to bed.
Man of the match awards were presented to Zaine McKenzie and Jonathan Phillips.
The Steeldogs are off to Leeds on Sunday and return home next Saturday for their first meeting with the Peterborough Phantoms.
