Sheffield 4-5 Romford

Sheffield injury woes continued but they were delighted with the return of Tate Shudra after several months out. Sheffield started brightly and recorded a shot on goal less than 5 seconds into the game. But it would be Romford who would be the dominant team within the first period. They took the lead on 2:11 with Jake Sylvester grabbing the goal. An equaliser for the Dogs from Sheffield’s top goal scorer Walker Sommer was the only highlight of the first period for the Dogs. A delayed penalty goal for Romford gave them back the lead. The goal scored by Reed Morison at 12:38 his first of the night but certainly not his last. His second of the night came at 17:50 ensuring the raiders lead 3-1 at the end of the first.

Sheffield had to find some passion and inspiration in the second period to get themselves back in this game. A goal from Walker Sommer at 22:05 gave them hope of doing that. The excitement rose only 46 seconds later when Tate Shudra returning from injury got himself on the scoreboard. From 3-1 down to get it level at 3 all in less than 3 minutes really should have pushed Sheffield on to victory. But it was Romford who pushed on. Romford were playing some fantastic passing hockey which got them back in the lead at 27:32. Reed Morison with his hat trick goal. Jack Brammer who swapped from defender to forward got the Dogs level at 29:33. Unfortunately Reed Morison was on fire and popped up with his fourth of the night at 36:22. The second period ended with Romford leading 5-4.

The third period was totally dominated by the SteelDogs but they were unable to find the back of the net. The dream of Coventry is over barring a miracle but stranger things have happened.
