An ever growing injury list saw Sheffield starting this game very short benched. Morgan, Kirk, Barry, Shudra and Jacob Brammer were all missing through injury. Swindon started the much brighter in the first period and were quickly on the score board at 3:34 with the goal being accredited to Glen Billing. Sheffield’s netminder was putting in another great performance to keep Swindon at bay until some skillful work from the leagues top goal scorer Bricknell doubled Swindon’s lead. Swindon added a third just a minute later on the power play. The first period ended with a three goal lead for Swindon.
The second period started with the never say die attitude from the Dog’s. The leagues second highest goal scorer Walker Sommer got in on the act, with a beautiful shot , assisted by Ripley and Turner. Less than three minutes later the Dog’s were on the power play and pushing for their second of the game. Elmeri Hallfor’s got in on the act with a nice lifted shot to reduce the deficit to one. Swindon replied very quickly with a dubious goal with what most fans thought came from a high stick. The rest of the period saw the Dog’s pushing forward try to close the gap , but Swindon were defending resolutely.
The third period was intense with Sheffield looking to get back into the game and Swindon trying to defend their lead and catch Sheffield on the break. Another power play awarded to Sheffield saw Nordstrom get on the scoreboard at 55:03 to reduce the deficit to one and set up an exciting last 4 minutes of play. Even though Sheffield pulled their netminder, Swindon defended resolutely holding on to confirm their 4-3 win.
Both games have seen a return to form for the SteelDogs with some great performances from players. Dan Crowe once again stood on his head and took his second man of the match in a row. Billing was awarded the beers for Swindon after a 3 point night and an excellent game.
Friday night see’s the visit of Romford to the Dog pound as the fight for the Coventry finals continues.
