This was the first of three local derbies covering the next 4 day’s. Confidence was very high amongst SteelDogs fans after last weekends displays.
They were not to be disappointed when the Dogs took an early lead scored by Walker Sommer on a 5 on 3 power play. Confidence was raised even further when Dogs bagged their second with some awesome work from Halfors and Kirk to set Ripley up for his first of the night. The Dog’s were pushing on and looking for more but an excellent double save from Dima in the Seahawks net kept it at 2-0.
A coming together at the end of the first after a late shot from Cooper would see him and Ripley of the Dog’s, along with Chamberlain and Haywood sitting an extra 2 minutes at the start of the second. Both teams exchanged chances at the start of the second half, with the Dogs going closest but another fine save by Dima kept them at bay.
Seahawks got themselves into the game with a power play goal but their joy was short lived. A great shift by the first line set Tremblay up to score the Dog’s third. More smart play from Hallfors to Clarke- Pizzo, set Ripley up for the Dog’s fourth of the evening.
The Dog’s were in total control at the end of the second leading 4-1.
The Seahawks came out in the third looking to play. The Dog’s were totally on the back foot and were struggling to get a hold of the game. Eleven minutes of dominance saw the game totally turned on its head with Seahawks scoring 4 unanswered goals from them to take the lead for the first time in the game.
SteelDogs called a time out but it proved too little too late. Even though they had a couple of late chances, the game seemed to be beyond them.
Old Dogs favourite Lee Bonner took the M.O.M beers home for hull with Ripley the Dogs M.O.M.
Hopefully tomorrow the dogs can put in a good 60 minute game and take the points out of Hull.
