Kirk Returns for 4th Season

It will be a fourth straight season with the Steeldogs for Captain Jonathan Kirk after his return was confirmed by head coach Ben Morgan.

After spending 5 seasons with Hull Pirates Kirk moved to Sheffield where he has tallied 161 games scoring 27 times and totalling 78 points.

“Bringing JK back as club captain for next season was an absolute must” said Morgan. “Jonathan has proven year upon year his position as one of the best British D-men in the league. His tenacity, offensive attributes and sheer work-ethic make him a standout performer each night.

“JK leads by example on the ice and last season was an ever present voice in the room as he stepped up to the responsibilities of wearing the C.

“As a role model to the younger players in the squad, we’re all excited to see JK in a Steeldogs jersey for another year and we look forward to seeing him continue his fine form for our club”.

A product of the “Sheffield System” Kirk had previously represented The Greyhounds, Rapiers, Scorpions, Steelhawkes, Spartans and Senators before making his Dogs debut in 2012, the same year he represented Great Britain at both U18 and U 20 level.

“Obviously last season didn’t go the way any of us would have liked it to go” said Kirk  “but it’s a process, and with all the changes going on around the club at the moment it’s a process I want to be a part of.

“We have some exciting young talent on board this year and a good mix of experienced guys too so hopefully that mix will lead to a good year for us. I’m looking forward to getting back at it come September and seeing what we can achieve this season”.
